NDK Wrap-Up

Sun Sep 13, 2009, 3:50 PM
I should have some pictures up within the next few days (if I can get my computer to play nicely with the school's wireless network; classes start tomorrow), but I can at least offer a brief wrap-up.

I AM NOT DEMYX. FFS, people, Vexen and Demyx don't even LOOK remotely the same, and the former would utterly pwn the latter. The next person who calls me Demyx, dies.

Anyway, it was a small convention, but it wasn't too bad. I've been spoiled by Yaoicon, ACEN, Anime Boston, and the like, but this was definitely better than Animeland Wasabi was back in March. The Marriott was a much more suitable venue than the Sheraton was, but it was still pretty small for the volume of people packed into it. That said, the dealer room was well laid out (though had nothing particularly special on offer, save for some chocolate with bits of rock salt in them and Choco Banana Pocky), and there were some nice people in the artist's alley (though I ignore the girl who kept advertising for herself on the forums). I picked up a new Xigbar/Vexen badge commission and put in for another one that I should hopefully be getting in a few weeks.

Also, everyone loved =temporary-glitch's badges! People kept saying that she managed to make them look like me, which makes me LOL a lot. >3 Note to self, must order MOAR.

The Kingdom Hearts cosplay scene was pretty limited. There was a flight of Sorae, a herd of Roxii, a plague of Axel (well, four or five), a filth (apparently an actual term) of Demyx, a couple Saix, some Zexions, a Xemnas, a couple Xigbars (with unfortunate preferences for soggy little cunts named Demyx, someone kill me), a couple Marluxias, and one Larxene. I was the only Vexen, again. There were a bunch of FF cosplayers as well. I really wish I could pull together enough good cosplayers to form a Rocky Mountain KH group. TAT

We didn't really go to any panel events; we were mostly there for the cosplay and the markets. There were two KH photoshoots (both of which kinda blew) and one FMA one, which Niko enjoyed as Kimblee. So, on the whole, it was a fun experience, though I'm looking forward to Yaoicon in October and Anime Boston next April. Plus Niko and I are going to try to make it to Anime LA in early January.

Current cosplay to-do list, after I shed about 40 pounds, is:

- Organization Vexen (final version)
- Atlantean Vexen (formal robes)
- Halloween Town Vexen
- Apprentice Even
- Lexaeus
- Larxene
- Major General Olivier Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist)

T-Minus 15 Hours...

Thu Sep 10, 2009, 4:43 PM
The shield is done (for this build, and I'm turning my brains toward the final incarnation now that I've gained some valuable new information), my wig is restyled, and Nan Desu Kan is tomorrow at noon!

Now if only I could get my doctors to LISTEN TO ME when I tell them I suspect I have thyroid issues, would they please run a full panel rather than one or two unreliable tests that they interpret using their personal standards, and put me on a trial of medication. -_-

And if people would stop sticking sharp objects in my back, that would also be nice.

Almost there...

Wed Sep 2, 2009, 4:43 PM
I'm covered with wood filler and fiberglass dust, I itch all over and have a date with more fiberglass and epoxy later today, but I'm almost done with Freeze Pride v.WTFE (What The Fuck Ever). It will probably only serve for a party I'm going to on Saturday, pre-Halloween cosplay on campus, and Nan Desu Kan, because I'm hoping to get my patterns finalized.

After which will come the final versions, one for local use and one for travel. I'm hoping to use Wonderflex, but if I have to use fiberglass again then I'll be using extra layers of resin and gesso to get a smooth finish.

Look for pre- and post-painting pictures within the next couple of days. :)

And he shall be my squishy~

Thu Jul 30, 2009, 5:34 PM
My computer crisis (a.k.a. my MacBook Pro starting to get a little senile after so many years) should be happily resolved within the next week, with a new and shiny MacBook Pro (15" 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB 7200 RPM drive) that has all the power and space it needs to run my graphics stuff on the go (though I still want a netbook to take with me to conventions, and because I need a PC of some description). Also a 16 GB iPod Touch, since Apple has that free (or mostly free, depending on capacity) iPod Touch for students promotion of theirs. I've never had a Touch or an iPhone before, so I'm all excited. X3

I shall call him Névé, I think, to go with my wee little iMac, Even.

Now if it would only stop raining! I'm trying desperately to get fiberglass application done Friday and Saturday so that I can sand on Sunday and Monday, before driving back to Denver and applying more fiberglass (and sanding again) if I have to, before I gel coat Freeze Pride v.3 and paint prior to Nan Desu Kan in mid-September. I just want to have it all done before classes start.

Plus all my commissions and Yaoicon stuff and ASDLKJASLDJLASLDJALSDJLASJDLASJDLASDLJSA.

I also need to bake when I get back home. I have to begin a new batch of Amish friendship bread starter, and stock my freezer full of yummy bread made with spelt flour (I made some the second day I was here and OMFG is it delish, and extremely tender even when toasted).
