Inspired by Dagmar's lovely Jason/Tommy story, More Than Friends and Brothers.
Yeah, I know, the lion needs tightening, rocks look horrible, etc. It'll get worked out in the end. I'm just holding off on doing anything too specific with those until I've definitely decided on a colouring style because, like the tiger, ahaha rough edges and fur (bleh).
I need suggestions for the rest of the background. Basalt being an igneous rock, after all, I'm not entirely sure what to do for the rest, because I don't generally associate lions with particularly volcanic regions. So, something to tie everything together would be real nice, before I go in with the fun happy shading stuff.
I may do this one watercolour-style. I've always loved how watercolours and inks look in black and white. Jason's legs totally didn't end up like I'd originally planned, but oh well. T_T At least the pose kinda makes his butt stick out. *fails*
I think I just freak over animals because I so rarely draw them. Partly because fur drives me insane, and I have less of a grasp of how animals are put together.
And yes, I am a tablet user. I use two different ones, my 9x12 Wacom Intuos3 tablet when I have lots of room, and more frequently my 4x6 Intuos3 when I'm on the move from room to room.
Actually, I don't have much choice because I'm terrible at drawing traditionally. I have spatial relation issues, and being unable to see my hand helps a lot. The whole pencil on paper producing drawing thing throws my brain for a loop.
All hail the tablet! I'd be lost without mine. X_x (Psst, if you want one the Wacom Graphire4 tablets are reasonably inexpensive. They're around $100 new, but you can find great deals on Amazon and eBay!)
Gah. That torso is drawn so incredibly well. Yes, I know I'm zooming in on one feature of the picture... but it keeps calling my eyes away. It's like... drool-worthy.
And I too envy your tablet drawing skills. If I can't turn a piece of paper every which way to Sunday, then I'm lost. And it's not easy turning a computer screen fourty different angles ^^.
I can't wait to see it finished!

X3 Why, thank you. I'm developing a fondness for torsos, for some reason. (It totally has nothing to do with wanting to see Tommy bathing every inch of Jason's with his tongue, nothing at all.)
It's weird with the tablet, because I do have to contort in ways that most people would rather not. XD; Fortunately the monitor and tablet are matched pixel for pixel, so as long as I orient the two of them in the same way, things work out. Though I amaze my mother when I visit for Christmas and stuff because I can have them at two completely different angles and things still manage to turn out decently.
Most of it, really, is just practise. I've been using a tablet for... I want to say about eight years. I'm totally dependent on the things; it says something that I spent my birthday and Christmas money on PR stuff -- and a smaller tablet so that I can work on the go. (It's difficult hauling a 12x9 from room to room, and it's also not really a lap tablet. I tend to like working sitting in butterfly fashion, with my computer sitting on my feet and my tablet on my right thigh. Desks are evil!)
Hopefully within the next few days I'll finish this one up. ^^
So I'm looking at the tablets on Wacom the 6x8s to be exact and I must ask since you seem to know about them, what's the diff between the Intuos3 and the Graphire tablet (aside 200 dollars). I mean I see the Intuos is more spiffy, but when you get right down to it is there really a grand diff in the quality of work that can be produced with it?
Not to mention I'm left handed so that lil mouse key bit in the upper left corner of the Intuos may get in my way.
Don't get an Intuos. I use them, but I'm used to 'em -- they're one hell of a lot more sensitive than the Graphires, and I do NOT recommend them for beginners. They're just too sensitive if you're not used to tablets.
No one's really going to be able to tell the difference anyway, when they look at the finished product. So in answer to your question, there's really no difference in quality. I personally love the Intuos tablets, but they take a lot more getting used to than the Graphires. And as you mentioned, yes, the touch bar on the Intuos WILL get in your way if you're left-handed. I'm right-handed, and it gets in my way.
Plus, a couple hundred bucks difference in price between the Intuos and the comparable Graphire. I used a Graphire for years, before I upgraded, and I have no complaints about them. I was actually considering getting one as my portable tablet, until the 6x4 Intuos came out.
So, I would recommend the Graphire4. But, you don't necessarily need the 6x8. It all depends on the size of your stroke. If you use smaller strokes, the 4x5 should be sufficient (that's the size that I used). But by all means go with the larger one, if your stroke is longer and looser. Just remember that too much tablet is as detrimental as too little tablet. I use my large tablet (9x12) when I do loose colouring, but when it comes to tight line art, I love my little 4x6 and wouldn't use anything else.
EEEEEE! I just finished reading that fanfic (up to where it's been updated anyway). It totally got me re-obsessed with the series. You did awesome justice to the callender. ^_^ The lion looks awesome. ^_^ The pose of Jason is also incredible. Well done!

You have a digital drawing pad don't you? None of these are scanned yer just drawing them straight onto the computer program, yeah? Sigh, so jealous.
